BIOFarm is not a big farm, in other words, we are capable of
controlling every detail of organic farming so as to ensure the
optimal quality of our produces. We don’t use chemical fertilizers,
pesticides, plant growth hormone, and GMO crops; rather we follow
the Nature rule to grow seasonal foods. Obviously, our organic
produces are not so competing in price and yield with those grown by
industrial mass way. In order to survive those small farmers
including BIOFarm which adopted organic farming to offer unpolluted
organic foods and to sustainedly maintain the biodiversity at their
organic farms, please support BIOFarm’s
『Community
supported Agriculture,CSA (BIOFarm-CSA)』programme.
This programme offers a great chance for an enterprise to execute
their Corporation Social Responsibility (CSR). More supports on CSA,
in turns, more small farmers would be encouraged to adopt organic
farming at their farms. We by return would improve our living
quality in making a sustainable environment to live with.

What is CSA?
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a special relationship that
a farmer, or a group of farmers, engages in with his or her local
consumers. Members of the community sign up in advance for a “share”
of all the fruits, vegetables, and flowers that a farmer will
produce in a given season. Members of the CSA then either come to
the farm once a week to pick up their “share” of the bounty, select
to pick the box up at a location close to the member’s home, or can
now select to have the produce delivered to their home or office.
Now, CSA concept has already been a new diet movement in many
developed countries, by which community residents (individuals and
cooperates) are encouraged to eat foods locally grown, seasonal and
organic foods. By pre-paid fund, farmers may arrange their harvest
plan on a year round basis so as to ensure that CSA members will
always have access to the freshest vegetables and farm products
available.

What is the advantage to become a
CSA member? Why we need to support CSA?
1. Selling
Price:Through
the CSA direct marketing system, farmers selling their produces
directly to the consumers, rather than to the wholesale dealers, are
willing to give a much competitive price to the customers , because
various expenses on delivery, package, on-shelf fee, etc., have been
reduced. Also, farmers may sell their products at a selling price
higher than that the wholesale buyers used to offer. So, this would
be a win-win business model for both the small farmers and the
consumers.
2.
Food Quality:
Through the CSA system, customers are encouraged to eat locally
grown foods which are brought to the farmers’
markets or to CSA pick-up spots directly from the farms without any
delay. This would ensure the optimal quality of these produces, in
view of the freshness, nutrition, and taste. Consumers and chefs may
even have more fun in cooking, because of more choices of locally
grown produces which might be certain heritage species, with limited
yield, or difficult for long-distance transportation.
3. Environmental
protection:
From a local farm to a local CSA-supported farmers’
market or to a CSA pick-up spot, food miles are much shorter than
those imported or transported with long distance. So, CSA may give
contribution to environmental protection, not only saving energy,
but also reduction of carbon emission and package garbage. CSA also
supports the biodiversity of a given area and the diversity of
agriculture through the preservation of small farms producing a wide
variety of crops.
4. Community
contribution:
CSA vitalizes local agriculture, improves local economics, and
increases employment. CSA creates opportunity for dialogue between
farmers and consumers, and thus to add a sense of social
responsibility and stewardship of local land. CSA puts "the farmers
face on food" and increases understanding of how, where, and by whom
our food is grown.
